Rameswaram's history is primarily rooted in the Hindu epic Ramayana, where it is depicted as the place where Lord Rama worshipped Shiva before building the bridge (Ram Setu) to Lanka to rescue Sita. It is also a sacred site for Shiva worship, home to a Jyotirlinga installed by Rama, and is a prominent pilgrimage destination for both Vishnu and Shiva devotees. The Ramanathaswamy Temple is its central religious and historical landmark.
In Rameswaram, you can see the Arulmigu Ramanatha Swamy Temple, the Pamban Bridge, Dhanushkodi Beach, and the Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam Memorial. The island is also home to numerous other sacred sites like the Kodandaramaswamy Temple and various tirthams (holy springs), as well as natural attractions like Ariyaman Beach. Religious sites
